Success story of Hakizimana Anesie from Rubagabaga
akizimana Anésie, from Rubagabaga 1, shares her experience with the G50 program. "The G50 program first taught us the importance of saving, and in addition to that, they introduced a new idea: teaching us fish farming. I was very excited, especially since meat was a luxury we could rarely afford. Although there were more women than men, we quickly got to work. Building the ponds was very hard work, but despite my age, I actively participated."
She continues by saying that shortly after the construction, AuxFin came to inspect the ponds and provided them with small fish to get started. The FishCoach program was very helpful to them. The harvest was good, although a disease had attacked the fish. If it hadn’t been for that, the harvest would have been even more impressive. It was truly a unique experience for their G50 group, as many of them had never seen fish in real life, only in pictures or images.
Anésie affirms that together, within the G50, they are ready to undertake more initiatives to become increasingly resilient to poverty. Full of joy, she was eagerly looking forward to seeing how the fish harvest would unfold. In her fifties, it was the first time she had seen a fish weighing 3 kg. Today, she calls on other women to join the others and continue the fish farming journey, a field that is not only for men.
