Uganda: Farmers’ Conference in Soroti on Digitalization

AUXFIN Uganda had the chance to join Soroti’s hardworking and dedicated farmers. Agriculture is the backbone of Uganda’s economy, and their efforts ensure that families are fed, businesses thrive, and communities grow stronger.

The Power of Digitalization in Agriculture

Traditionally, farming has relied on experience, weather patterns, and manual labor. But the world is changing. Digital tools are transforming farming by providing real-time information, access to financial services, and better market opportunities.  So, what can digitalization do for farmers in Soroti?

1. Better Farm Management

• With digital tools like AgriCoach, they can get real-time advice on crop management, weather predictions, and pest control.
• This ensures higher yields and better-quality crops, meaning more income for the farm households.

2. Access to Finance & Savings 

• Many farmers struggle to access loans or secure savings. Our FinanceCoach and VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Associations) digital tools help them track their money, save efficiently, and access financial services.
• No more relying on middlemen or struggling to find financial support when needed most. 

3. Market Linkages & Fair Prices 

• Through digital platforms like Auxfin’s UMVA, farmers can connect directly with buyers, ensuring they get the best price for their produce.
• They can also learn about market demand and trends, so to know what to plant and when to sell for maximum profit.

4. Improved Livestock & Fish Farming 

• For those in fish farming, our FishCoach application has already shown success in Burundi, helping farmers optimize their ponds, reduce feed costs, and improve yields.
• Similar approaches can be used for poultry, dairy, and other livestock farming.

5. Health & Well-being 

• Healthy farmers are productive farmers. HealthCoach provides advice on nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention, aiming for the farmer family to stay strong and active.
